Debt Issues, Who Can You Trust? 4 Pillars St. John’s

Debt Issues, Who Can You Trust? 4 Pillars St. John’s

We live in cynical times.  Suspicion is everywhere; from the employer who insists on checking your hand bag before you can leave the premises to security cameras popping up on every street corner.  People are even being told to cover up their web cams for fear of being watched. Fake news looks like real news, and real news is so slanted to the left or the right that getting the facts can leave your head spinning.  Is it any wonder we’re getting paranoid when every newscast seems focused on doom and gloom, and the end of civilization as we know it; at least that’s how it feels.  So it’s no wonder that we treat every kind gesture with a healthy dose of skepticism.

When you’ve been living with debt for a while it’s easy to see the world from a glass half empty point of view, as opposed to those optimistic days when your glass was half full.  Your struggle with debt is real and its impact on your life is negative.  You may not have reached a state of full blown cynicism but you’ve definitely been left jaded by your debt; battle weary, hopeless, and yes, skeptical. Your desperation to get out of debt means you are vulnerable to those who prey on people in your situation.  They offer you easy solutions and big promises to put an end to your debt. This is where a little thoughtful skepticism is needed.

Remember the adage, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.  When you go looking for debt help do it with your eyes and ears wide open.  A reputable Debt Specialist will encourage your research and welcome any and all questions without hesitation.

  • If the debt company is offering you their services for free, ask how they’re getting paid.
  • Ask for references, good and bad.
  • Ask for a detailed explanation of how they work and what exactly they are going to do to help you? (Remember, a successful debt restructuring plan will go beyond just paying off your debt, it should help you create a sustainable budget and provide a comprehensive credit rebuilding program.)
  • Are you greeted with judgement and blame or genuine compassion and understanding?
  • Are you talking to this expert in person or dealing with a call center?
  • Does it feel like your concerns are being taken seriously with a genuine effort to understand your situation or does it seem like you are just a file number being offered a one size fits all, debt restructuring plan?
  • Are you being heard?

Your debt situation is as unique as you are.  Your long term financial goals need to be taken into account before any restructuring plan is created.

The most important thing to look for when seeking debt help is transparency.  Without transparency there is no trust.  So listen to what the ‘experts’ tell you, and more importantly listen to what they DON’T tell you.  I’m Christine Wagner, your 4 Pillars Debt Specialist in St. John’s.  When it’s your financial future at stake, a little skepticism can be a good thing.

Is 4 Pillars Debt Solutions a Scam?

No. 4 Pillars Debt Solutions is not a scam.  Granted, it may seem like we’re too good to be true however, over the last 15 years we have created a program to deal with debt; one we believe is the most successful and most comprehensive in Canada.  Yes, we provide a service for which we do charge a fee; but, with that fee comes our promise and assurance that we work only for you, not your creditors.  We are not impartial, we are on YOUR side, representing your best interest with no obligations or duties to your creditors.

4 Pillars Debt Solutions has found itself in a rare position in the market because other companies are either funded by your creditors or have a fiduciary duty to them.  Instead, we believe that as members of the debt advisory business one either represents the debtor or they represent the creditor.  You can’t do both and be impartial.  If you were buying a house, would you use the same realtor as the person selling you the house?  Of course not.

Since 2002 4 Pillars Debt Solutions has been creating strategies and tools to get Canadians out of debt, and keep them out of debt.  As a result of the 4 Pillars approach, 97% of our clients have successfully completed their debt restructuring programs and are now experiencing freedom from debt.  And with our help they have been able to rebuild their credit, quickly and effectively. So, by the time their debt’s been paid off, their credit score is also stronger.
