Greater Montreal Debt Relief Specialists

How can the 4 Pillars Montreal team help you?

Your credit card debt is overwhelming. Your business is struggling. Your job is hanging by a thread, and collection companies are looming. You are unsure of what your financial future holds. You are not alone. Our Montreal team is here to help.

Debt Relief in Greater Montreal

From the Plateau, Rosemont, Villeray and Verdun to Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Côte-des-Neiges, Saint-Laurent and Ahuntsic, and out to the West Island, Laval and the South Shore, Montreal households are dealing with rising rents, higher mortgage renewals and the everyday cost of city life. Many people we hear from work in health care, aerospace, tech and gaming, hospitality, or at one of the city’s universities, and a change in hours or a lease renewal can be all it takes for credit card and line-of-credit payments to get out of hand. We start with your real numbers, then explain which options fit, from a tighter budget and money coaching and a debt management plan to a formal solution through a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. See all of our services.

According to the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, the Montréal economic region recorded 6,901 consumer insolvencies in 2025, up 5.8% from 2024. Consumer proposals made up 4,646 of them, and bankruptcies rose 7.7% to 2,255, about one in three filings.

Consumer Proposal in Montreal

If you can afford a regular payment but not your full unsecured balances, a consumer proposal lets you offer your creditors part of what you owe over up to five years, with no interest, and you generally keep your assets. Only a Licensed Insolvency Trustee can file it, and your creditors vote on it. 4 Pillars is not a trustee. We help you prepare and connect you with one. How a consumer proposal works.

Bankruptcy in Montreal

Bankruptcy may be the more realistic option if your income is limited and you have few assets. Only a Licensed Insolvency Trustee can file it, and Quebec law decides which property is protected from seizure. We’ll explain what it would mean for you before you meet a trustee. Learn about bankruptcy.

Debt Consolidation in Montreal

If your credit is still good, a consolidation loan from your bank or caisse can replace several payments with one, but it doesn’t reduce what you owe. Refinancing your home moves unsecured debt onto your property, so compare options for homeowners first. Once your debt is under control, we help with credit rebuilding.

Montreal Debt Questions

Is there a Quebec-only alternative to a consumer proposal?

Yes. Under Quebec’s voluntary deposit procedure, you commit to making regular payments, at least the seizable portion of your income, to the office of the Court of Québec, which distributes them to your creditors. It works very differently from a consumer proposal, so it’s worth comparing the two before you decide.

My lease renews on July 1 and my rent is going up. Can you help?

Rent itself isn’t part of a consumer proposal, but lowering what you pay on credit cards and other unsecured debts can free up room for housing costs. If you think a rent increase is too high, Quebec’s Tribunal administratif du logement has rules on increases.

I live in Laval or on the South Shore. Can I start by phone?

Yes. Call 250-410-3963 or use the form on this page to book your free consultation by phone or video.

How common is bankruptcy in the Montreal area?

In 2025, about one in three consumer insolvencies in the Montréal economic region were bankruptcies (2,255 of 6,901); the rest were consumer proposals.

How the Montreal Team Can Help

Every debt situation is different, and bankruptcy isn’t necessarily your only option. Depending on your situation, your options may include a budget and debt management plan, a consolidation loan, Quebec’s voluntary deposit procedure, a consumer proposal or bankruptcy. A Licensed Insolvency Trustee files consumer proposals and bankruptcies.

We start by understanding your situation, explain the options that fit and what each would cost, and help you choose. Afterwards, we keep working with you on budgeting and credit so you can start rebuilding.

About Our Montreal Team

Our Montreal team works with individuals, families and small business owners across the island, Laval and the South Shore. We meet every client with compassion and respect, explain your options in plain language, and support you with budgeting and credit rebuilding once your debt is dealt with.
