My husband lost his job from oil and gas company in Oct 2014 until present. I was pregnant with our first child and had difficulties in pregnancy, the reason why I worked as casual. About 7 years ago I got to a low point in my life. Getting into trouble, falling in and out of contact with friends and family, not caring of where my life was headed. And the worst part, not caring about being responsible with my bills. It was a hard hit to say the least. It made me feel like there was no way out. Once you realize in life, no matter who you are. There comes a point when you want to be normal, not afraid, and to be a man. When that moment hits you realize there is only one way to do this... You have to care and take responsibility. That being said once you've dug your hole it's extremely difficult to get out by your self. No matter how hard you work, or try to regain trust and show your trying as hard as you can will still be extremely difficult. Coincidentally enough one day I saw an add on Facebook for 4 Pillars Calgary with testimonials like this. It was hard to believe that there was a way, and people there to help WITHOUT going through a bankruptcy and destroying whatever you have left. I had to look further into this. Once I met with the staff at 4 Pillars here in Calgary, it definitely made me feel as if they truly are there to help. I had to accept and see where this would go as my options were limited. Hi Jennifer, The cause of my financial difficulty was due to our lack of proper budgeting as a couple. We used finance companies to keep up with our bills which was the wrong way to deal with our situation and it had become difficult to manage this debt load of $36,723 plus the accumulating interest which kept adding up month after month. Thank you! - From the bottom of my heart, thank you! I was drowning in an ocean of financial debt with no hope of getting out. My husband wasn’t working leaving me to support us and our two kids for more than half a year. The bills piled up, my income alone wasn’t enough to handle everyday expenses, let alone previous debts that were accumulating. Debt from paying for our wedding, and having two kids, poor decisions, one income and no plan in the present or future to pay it all off. We were introduced to John & Jennifer through a mutual friend. I first met with John, and in our appointment he gave me an honest assessment of my situation and options to think over. In our second appointment my husband came with me. John answered many of our questions and I was hopeful for the first time. However, my husband was out of a job and therefore John recommended that we not proceed at that time due to the fact that we wouldn’t be able to pay our debt proposal if we proceeded, leaving us worse off than before. Once my husband had a job I contacted John again, though my husband wasn’t interested in the idea of a debt proposal. My financial situation continued to get worse, affecting my marriage considerably. The stress was too much, along with other factors; we ended up going through a divorce. I contacted John once again to re-assess my situation as a single parent. John was honest, gave me ideas to work with and allowed me time to determine what course of action was in my best interest. I decided on a consumer debt proposal. From that point on John, Jen, and Hannah took me under their wings, took care of the details and put my file together and made an offer to my creditors. All of the calls, letters, demands from creditors stopped. Simply stopped! The weight of it all was off my shoulders, my head came up from under the ocean of debt and I could now breathe. I can’t truly describe how it feels to be able to focus on getting the rest of my life back together, to be able to support my two beautiful children and enjoy their childhood. My meetings with Jen after provided me with tools and a plan for my future so that I don’t make the same mistakes. She is wonderful to work with and truly understands what I was dealing with. She made the process easy and worked with my budget. It’s refreshing to have a financial plan, one that works for me and for my children. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and guidance from everyone at 4 Pillars Calgary. There were never any judgements. They accepted my situation and have made it possible for me to be a happy mother supporting amazing children. I am positive again, hopeful, and can finally see a future with a financial plan. 2 years ago, I walked into the 4 Pillars Calgary office and met with John, and it was an absolutely excellent experience to say the least, considering the position I was in at that time. I am currently half way through paying down my debt, and the nice part is, that is the only debt that I currently have. I am also proud to say that my credit card company isn’t too happy with me, because I maintain a zero balance, and I do use it regularly. I will continue to refer people to your services when needed. Every day I am so thankful that I met John and Jennifer. My husband and I were in way over our heads, drowning in a sea of debt, and it was only getting worse. We didn't know what to do anymore. I guess I'm a slow learner. John remembered me making an appointment about 3 years before I actually got the guts to come and do something about my grim situation. He told me in our first meeting about talking to someone with an accent and an expensive latte addiction, not the timmys or starbucks type, much more expensive, but ooohhh so good. I am happy to say I have cut back from 5 or 6 a week to 1 or 2 :) I was mortified my financial situation had come to this. John, you were kind and caring, as were you, Jennifer when I met you in my 2nd visit. The last thing I imagined doing in meetings of this sort would be to laugh. You helped me see I was not a loser, but could turn this around. It was NOT even suggested I sell my horse, (my heart), and FOR THAT I WAS SO RELIEVED!! I still have some (a lot) of learning to do, still making some mistakes, but feel confident that with your help I can turn this around. Now instead of 3 steps back and 1/2 forward it has reversed. My stress levels have dropped significantly and even when I quit my job, which was terrible, John, I thought you'd be angry at the timing etc, but the reaction was the exact opposite. I was in debt for $116,000 due to a bad marriage. My wife left me with a mortgage that I could not pay and ended up in foreclosure. When I met with the trustee, they recommended that I go bankrupt but I didn’t want to listen to them and just give up. I’m glad that I hired John and Jennifer to help me instead. They represented me and helped reduce my CMHC mortgage shortfall debt down to $22,400. I didn’t have to go bankrupt just like the trustee recommended. My monthly payment is now $400 with NO interest!
