I used to dread hearing the ring on my telephone. It felt like there was always a bill collector wanting money. Before I met Jennifer, I had $43,000 worth of debt. Scott at 4Pillars Consulting helped lift a weight off our shoulders. Before contacting 4 Pillars we were being swallowed by our debt. For the past year, my husband and I have tried to consolidate our debts. Out of luck the bank couldn’t approve us. I was told by a friend to try a broker but we got the same response from the bank “DECLINED”. But the broker advised us three things; first is to find a credit counselor, secondly is to file bankruptcy and lastly sell the house. This is not what I wanted to do! Approximately 3 years ago my husband came home from work looking quite distressed. He told me our financial situation was deteriorating and no matter how many extra hours we added to our work week, the bottom line was, we would hardly be able to keep up with the interest payments on our debt and still keep the house running. He had a form he had picked up explaining what a consumer proposal was and a questionnaire. He wanted us to discuss doing a consumer proposal. We called the number, I was distraught at the time and when Scott answered the phone, he immediately relieved my anxiety by saying “don’t worry, I am certain there is something we can do to help you”. Scott setup an appointment so that he could discuss our options and go over our situation. From the minute we entered the reception area, we were treated with kindness, respect and courtesy. I guess I’m a slow learner. John remembered me making an appointment about 3 years before I actually got the guts to come and do something about my grim situation. He told me in our first meeting about talking to someone with an accent and an expensive latte addiction, not the timmys or starbucks type, much more expensive, but ooohhh so good. I am happy to say I have cut back from 5 or 6 a week to 1 or 2 🙂 I was mortified my financial situation had come to this. I had always paid my bills and worked hard but I had gotten myself in a little over my head with my student loans and credit card. Over the last few years I had managed to run up over 60k of unsecured debt. Mainly credit cards and a line of credit.
